If your home was built before 1978, there is a good chance it has lead based paint. In 1978, the federal government banned
consumer uses of lead containing paint. Some states banned it even earlier. Lead from paint, including lead contaminated dust, is one of the most common causes of lead poisoning.
If your home was built before 1978, have your home tested for lead, learn about potential lead hazards, and remediate any hazards
that you encounter. Get your home tested in one, or both of the following ways:
- Lead Based Paint Inspection- reports the lead content of every different painted surface in the home(however it
does not report on the paints condition). This is most appropriate when you are buying a home, signing a lease, before you renovate, and to help you determine how to maintain your home for lead
safety.
- Lead Risk Assesment- reports all sources of serious lead exposure, such as pealing paint and lead dust.
Identifies the actions needed to address these hazards. This testing is helpful to determine if lead exposure is occuring now.
